Fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) broadband
FTTP stands for fibre-to-the-premises, a type of ultrafast fibre broadband. At Airband we provide this service across our network, bringing ultrafast speeds of up to 1Gbps to our customers in more rural areas.
There’s no line rental or phone line required, so the price you see is the price you pay.
Streaming, gaming and browsing is a given with our ultrafast, fibre broadband.
Fast, secure and reliable.

What is fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP)?
Fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) is an advanced fibre broadband technology that utilises fibre optic cables to deliver ultrafast internet connectivity directly from your local exchange to your home.
Fibre-to-the-premises is also known as fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) or “full fibre”.
Fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) is a faster, better, alternative to fibre-to-the-cabinet (FTTC), which uses fibre only up to a street cabinet, and relies on slower copper wires for the final connection. This can limit speed and performance, particularly over longer distances, or during peak usage times.
Fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) is also known as fibre-to-the-home (FTTH)

Can I get FTTP to my house?
Use our broadband coverage checker and if you’re within range, our engineers can quickly get to your home and install the equipment. On installation, a fibre cable is run from the nearest distribution point to your property. We use overhead fibre where possible, making use of existing phone lines, and we also use underground ducts where necessary.
Our engineer will consult with you on the best place for the cable to enter your premises. At this entry point, we fix a small box discreetly to your wall/skirting board – which connects to your router. Depending on where you live, this box is 77mm x 77mm x 28mm in size.
Do we charge a set up fee for fibre broadband?
No, we don’t charge an extra installation cost. We offer broadband with no upfront costs.
What does FTTP equipment look like?
The visible equipment on the exterior of your property is very discrete. We always aim to keep the cable run as hidden as possible.
The internal equipment will be installed at the location where the cable comes into the property.

What is FTTC (fibre-to-the-cabinet)?
FTTC stands for fibre-to-the-cabinet. With an FTTC connection, fibre optic cables are used to bring internet to fibre cabinets, which are the green boxes commonly seen on UK streets:
Copper cables are then used to connect houses to the cabinet. FTTC is the primary means that most of the country gets their internet, but more and more homes are switching to FTTP.
Why is FTTP better (than FTTC)?
FTTP is better than FTTC because it uses fibre optic cable to transmit data all the way to the premises, while FTTC uses copper cables for the final connection.
This means FTTC is much slower than FTTP – copper cable can take just 70Mbps. It’s not unusual however for FTTP to deliver speeds over 900Mbps, with the fastest internet speed ever recorded (and using FTTP) hitting 402 Terabits per second (Tbps).
How do I know if I have FTTC or FTTP?
You can check with your internet provider to see if you have FTTC or FTTP. You can check the name of your broadband plan.
Why can’t I get FTTP?
There are several reasons you might not be able to get FTTP :
- You may not live close enough to the nearest street cabinet.
- Demand in your local area may be too high at the moment.
- The internet provider you’re enquiring with might not have the capacity to get to you right now.
If you can’t get FTTP, you may be able to get our fixed wireless broadband, which can provide you with superfast broadband via a wireless radio connection.

What’s the difference between FTTH and FTTP?
There’s no difference between FTTH (fibre-to-the-home) and FTTP (fibre-to-the-premises). Both FTTH and FTTP refer to ultrafast, reliable fibre broadband that comes direct to the home or premises. The terms FTTH and FTTP are used interchangeably.
