Fixed wireless access (FWA) broadband

Our ultrafast point-to-point broadband uses radio signals to bring clear, reliable internet to homes across the UK. No digging. No cables from your home to the exchange. Just fast internet exactly where you need it.

Why choose fixed wireless access (FWA)?

If you can’t get full fibre (FTTP internet), FWA is one of the best alternatives. It brings fibre-like performance to areas that traditional networks overlook, including rural and hard-to-reach locations.

And it’s quick and easy to install.

Using advanced point-to-point wireless radio technology, there’s no long cables, no digging, and no relying on old infrastructure – just a powerful wireless signal that reaches places many other broadband providers can’t.

  • Ultrafast broadband you can depend on
  • Works brilliantly even in the most remote parts of the UK
  • Free setup and installation
  • No mid-contract price hikes

Airband's fixed wireless broadband network provides a signal that's clear, consistent and always connected. Our service is quick to deploy, easy to install and gives reliable internet speeds.

What is fixed wireless access?

Fixed wireless access (FWA) is a type of broadband that delivers high-speed connectivity using wireless radio signals instead of wired infrastructure like copper or fibre cables. It uses wireless point-to-point microwave technology (P2P) to transmit data from a base station to a receiver (such as a router or antenna) installed at the customer’s location.

Due to the technologies used, fixed wireless broadband is also often referred to as “microwave broadband”, “radio broadband”, or “point-to-point wireless broadband”.

How does fixed wireless work?

Fixed wireless access works by using transmission masts (or poles) with radios on that communicate to a smaller radio receiver at your home.

Fixed wireless technology works on a line-of-sight principle. If the main mast can be seen with no obstruction, then you can get broadband with us. Our skilled team will guide you through the process and provide a comprehensive survey prior to install. Our fastest wireless speeds can reach up to 1000Mbps.

What speeds are you currently getting? Use our broadband speed test to find out.

How do I get fixed wireless broadband?

We can provide fixed wireless broadband to hundreds of locations across the UK.

To get started, see if you can get our Airspeed (fixed wireless) packages, by entering your postcode into our postcode checker below:

If you’re within our FWA coverage area, simply complete your purchase and we will be in touch very soon to arrange an installation date.

Does fixed wireless broadband require installation?

Yes, FWA does require installation – but it’s much quicker and easier to install than many other types of internet connections.

Fixed wireless broadband doesn’t need a cable from your home to the exchange, and we don’t need to dig – we simply install a small receiver (usually an external antenna) outside your property that connects to our point-to-point wireless signal. This is then connected to your router, and you’re ready to go. Our engineers will discuss and agree everything with you before they begin the work.

If you’re looking for broadband without installation, fixed wireless broadband comes very close – it’s a small, simple setup for a fast, reliable connection.

What does the Airband equipment look like?

We use a range of small radio receivers, ranging in size from 130mm to 400mm in diameter. Our engineer will identify the best radio receiver and position for the receiver before they begin the work.

The internal equipment will be installed at the location where the cable comes into the property.

Does fixed wireless access use 5G technology?

Fixed wireless access can use 5G technology, but it isn’t the norm. 5G is primarily a mobile technology designed for smartphones and mobile connectivity, although it can still be used for fixed broadband in some cases.

More often, fixed wireless uses a dedicated radio link rather than mobile roaming, offering a more stable, fixed-location connection.

Is fixed wireless the same as WiFi?

No, fixed wireless access (FWA) is not the same as WiFi. FWA is a broadband delivery method that provides internet to homes or businesses using a wireless signal (usually radio, but sometimes over 3G, 4G, or 5G).

Wi-Fi however, is a way of wirelessly connecting devices to a local internet connection. It uses a router to create a network that allows smartphones, laptops, and other devices to access the internet without needing physical cables. For example, if you’re at home and you wirelessly connect your laptop to the internet, you are using the WiFi.

What is radio broadband?

Radio broadband is simply another name for FWA. It uses radio waves instead of underground cables to deliver high-speed internet to your home. A signal is sent from a nearby mast to a small receiver on your property, which then connects to your router. It’s a fast, reliable alternative in areas where fibre isn’t available – and a great way to get great broadband without the need for major installation work.
