Create a guest network with the Nokia WiFi app

Sharing your WiFi with guests shouldn’t compromise your network’s security. The Nokia WiFi app allows you to create a separate guest network, providing internet access without exposing your personal network.

This guide will walk you through setting up and managing your guest network, including password protection, open access, and sharing options.

About guest networks

A guest network creates a separate WiFi network for visitors, isolating them from your primary network. This enhances security and prevents unauthorised access to your devices.

Note: The ability to add a guest network is only available in some configurations.

Enabling a guest network

1. Access guest network:
   • Tap the toggle button on the guest network card on the home screen of the Nokia WiFi mobile app.
   • Alternatively, tap “Settings” on the home screen, then “WiFi Networks,” and then select the guest network.
2. View details:
   • Tap on the guest network card to view its details.
3. Warning message:
   • Be aware that some WiFi points may require a chip reboot, which will cause a brief network outage (about two minutes). A warning message will appear, and you must tap “Continue” to proceed.

Disabling a guest network

1. Tap the toggle button on the guest network card on the home screen.
2. Via settings:
   • Tap “Settings” on the home screen.
   • Tap “Continue” on the warning message.
   • Under “WiFi Networks,” tap “>” next to “Guest WiFi.”
   • Toggle “Enable Network” to disable.

Editing guest network settings

1. Access edit mode:
   • Tap the “Edit” icon on the guest network card.
2. Configure settings:
   • Enable Network: Toggle on/off.
3. Access Type:
   • Password (Default): Guests enter a password.
   • Open (Some Configurations): No password, but you must approve each device.
4. Edit the network name (SSID, up to 32 characters).
5. Password: (Password access only) Edit the password (minimum 8 characters).
6. Set the expiration time (Never, 1 Hr, 4 Hrs, 8 Hrs, 1 Day, 1 Week, 1 Month, 1 Year, or Custom).
   • If choosing Custom, set the specific date and time.
7. Tap the checkmark to save.
8. Remember that changing network settings will cause a brief (two-minute) network outage. Tap “Continue” to confirm.

Sharing the guest network

1. Tap the “Share” icon on the guest network details screen.
2. Choose how to share (SMS, email, etc.).
3. Guests receive the network name and password (if applicable).

Enabling devices on an open guest network

1. Tap the “Edit” icon.
2. Swipe down to view “Guest Devices.”
3. Toggle the button next to each device to grant access.
