Monitoring devices with the Nokia WiFi app
Understanding how your network is being utilised can help with managing bandwidth, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining security.
The Nokia WiFi app provides detailed insights into connected devices and their usage. This article will guide you through viewing device details, managing device names and categories, removing devices, and blocking/unblocking access. Viewing the device list
- Access devices:
- Tap “Devices” at the bottom of the home screen, or tap “Devices” on the home screen.
- Connected devices:
- The “Connected” tab displays all devices currently connected to your network.
- A green LED light indicates a successful connection.
- Not connected devices:
- The “Not connected” tab shows devices that were previously connected but are currently offline.
Devices are automatically removed from this list after 15 days of inactivity.
Viewing device details
- Select device: Tap on a device in the list to view its details.
- Device information:
- Internet access: Displays the device’s internet connection status.
- Assigned to: Shows the family profile the device is assigned to.
- Connected to: Indicates which WiFi point the device is connected to.
- Connection: Displays the connection type (Wireless 5 GHz, Wireless 2.4 GHz, or Wired).
- WiFi standard: Displays the WiFi standard the device is using.
- Connection notification: Shows whether notifications are enabled for this device.
- Connection time: Displays the device’s connection duration to the WiFi point.
- MAC address: The device’s unique hardware identification number.
- IP address: The device’s network communication address.
- IPv6 address 1 & 2: Encrypted IPv6 addresses.
- Physical rate:
- Band: The bandwidth frequency in Megahertz (MHz).
- TX rate: The device’s transmission speed to the WiFi point (Mbps).
- RX rate: The device’s reception speed from the WiFi point (Mbps).
Changing device names and categories
Note: This feature may not be available in all configurations.
- Edit device:
- From the device details view, tap the “Edit” icon.
- Edit name:
- Type the new device name (1-64 alphanumeric characters, no leading/trailing spaces).
- Note: The displayed name is retrieved from the device’s settings by default.
- Edit category:
- Tap “>” under “Category.”
- Select the appropriate category.
- Save changes:
- Tap the checkmark to save.
Removing not connected devices
- Access not connected tab:
- Tap “Devices” and navigate to the “Not connected” tab.
- Remove individual device:
- Swipe left on the device and tap the delete icon.
- Confirm deletion.
- Remove all devices:
- Tap “Remove all” and confirm.
Blocking and unblocking devices:
- Blocking a device:
- Tap the device name.
- Tap the ellipsis (…) menu and select “Block.”
- Note: Blocking causes a brief network outage.
- Viewing blocked devices:
- Navigate to “Not Connected” > “Blocked.”
- Unblocking a device:
- In the “Blocked” list, tap “Unblock.”
- Note: Unblocking also causes a brief network outage.
